Hello everyone my name is Drea O, and I’m new to the Greedmont team!
I recently sat down with Diggy Simmons and Trevor Jackson for an intimate interview. They are currently traveling the US on their ” Who Else But Us” promotional tour promoting their new single “My Girl”. During their visit to Chicago we sat down to talk about everything from Diggy’s new TV show starring himself, Teyana Taylor and Bria Murphy to whether he’s still beefing with J.Cole. Trevor Jackson gave me a great insight on how he deals with the ladies, and both Trevor and Diggy both taught me how to properly do the Bobby Schmurda “Shmoney Dance” I had a blast interviewing them.

It’s been more than a week since Michael Brown was gunned down by Ferguson (MO) police. As the small Missouri community continues to protest, the music community has shown their support as well. Over the weekend, J. Cole paid the protestors a visit after releasing his tribute song, “Be Free.”
“STOP F*CKIN’ KILLIN US,” Cole tweeted.
During his visit, Cole stopped by the gas station where protestors and police have been facing off and spoke with the people. He also overlooked the road where Brown was fatally shot. While he wasn’t the first artist to pay a visit, it goes to show how much this tragedy has affected so many.
“Rest in Peace to Michael Brown and to every young black man murdered in America, whether by the hands of white or black. I pray that one day the world will be filled with peace and rid of injustice. Only then will we all Be Free. “- Cole

“I’m important like the pope, I’m a Muslim on pork. I’m Makaveli’s offspring, I’m the king of New York, king of the coast..“
It’s been a year since Kendrick Lamar dropped his infamous verse on Big Sean’s “Control.” And a year later, it still rings loud in the ears of Hip Hop. If you are from New York, you hated his verse. If you are a fellow rapper in the industry, you either gave him props or declared war. It was just one of those verses that left very little gray areas in where you stood. You hated it or you loved it.
As a Hip Hop enthusiast since my single-digit years, what Kendrick laid bare on that track was needed – badly. Prior to “Control,” Hip Hop was in an extremely comfortable state. Rappers were at ease and didn’t feel the need to put in as much effort. It was the calm before the storm, so to speak. Granted we can’t take away from the friendly, collaborative efforts of Hip Hop artists of today. But there is also nothing wrong with a little bit of competition. Actually, it’s encouraged. Like the saying goes “iron sharpens iron.” And Kendrick provided the tool.
Instantaneously, the responses were magnified on social media. It was obvious Kendrick had rubbed some people the wrong way. I mean, who claims they’re the “King of New York” – especially coming from Cali? Who calls out 11 of his peers, saying he’d “murder” them on the microphone?
Kendrick did. (more…)

A Rough Night
What began as Dani’s surprise birthday party suddenly became so much more.
Initially hesitant to attend due to subconscious thoughts that it wouldn’t make a difference, I finally decided to emerge from my comfort zone and resist my sapping suppositions.
Our former encounters were minimal. She worked in the accounting department of the firm, and I worked upstairs in Creative. We rarely shared more than a smile as I strolled past her desk every morning at work. I was informed of the festivities via a business email blast. According to the flyer, everybody was invited as long as they kept the secret, and brought a gift.
The turn out was tiny, consisting mostly of Dani’s family members and close friends. Co-workers popped in from time to time, only to leave within the hour toting claims of prior plans and commitments.
Nobody brought a gift.
Everybody brought spirits.
Libations became lubricants, and I witnessed Dani loosen. (more…)
