I’m not able to summarize the legacy of Nelson Mandela, South Africa’s first Black President. Instead, I expressed my tribute with a visual that displays his message of forgiveness.

Came across Boston up and comer, Michael Christmas the other day. I love this guy’s creativity with the visuals. This video is directed by the busy director, Goodwin (Young Thug, Rome Fortune, Zip K, Peewee Longway). Although he has a monotone delivery, I’m still interested to hear more from Mr. Christmas and what he brings to the table, but as long he stays true to himself and keeps his creativity and vision in tact he will be ok. Keep a close ear and eye out for the kid.

Julian Caesar, the author of the book, The Morning After (Presented by Greedmont Park http://www.greedmontpark.com/2012/06/14/greedmont-park-presents-the-morning-after/ ), is back with yet another, titled, Failing Upwards. If you’ve read the previous book than you’re familiar with Caesar’s style of making the most, what should be, awkward, over the top, sometimes even raunchy things and/or situations, seem like the most beautiful things in the world. The Scotch loving ladies man has a way of grasping your attention from the first word and even elevating it as you go along. Usually writing from personal experiences and perspectives, he presents his first sample from the new work, for you all to read and enjoy (Below). Failing Upwards coming soon. (more…)

Chance the Rapper is probably the next big thing in Hip Hop. Making incredible strides with just two free mixtapes, 10 Day and Acid Ra,p and touring constantly all while remaining independent doesn’t hurt either. The unique raspy voice (which is most likely a combination of his natural tone and cigarette habit), the flows that are reminiscent of early Eminem while simultaneously adding melodies, and his acid-tripping influenced ad-lib “igh”, are just a few of the reasons that make Chance one of the IT guys in music right now. I’ve been a fan of Chance since I saw/heard his video of “Hey Ma” last year and have watched him progress since. One thing that he reminds me of, even more than the musicians that inspire and influence him, is how his career mirrors that of an indie, even some major, rock bands, and I don’t know if I’ve ever seen anything like this in Hip Hop before. Chapel is an audio/visual art installation, by producer/dj collective Heroes & Villains (HXV) and lifestyle and fashion brand FRESH.i.AM. CHAPEL premiers on December 4th at WAKEUP Star studios, located in Miami’s Wynwood Arts district, for the launch of Art Basel 2013. Chapel’s purpose is to create a neo-modern take on the value-relation of products and mans relationship to products. This installation is comprised of a light installation created in collaboration with visual effects studio Goma, an original score and performance by HXV, and fashion product installation by FIA. As an homage to a pre-internet sense of discovery, items will be presented in limited quantities and only be available at CHAPEL.
To commemorate the event, HXV is offering an first listen of his latest CHAPEL EP for one week prior to it’s official release, exclusively on www.redbull.com/heroesvillains, available to listen beginning Monday, December 9, 2013.
Fans can tune in exclusively on the Red Bull Music channel online or pick up a hard copy of the EP at the Chapel event during Art Basel week in Miami.
