Looks like 2010 is gonna be a big year for music! Here’s some of the albums I look forward to most…
Outkast : TBA [Arista]
Big Boi stated on NME that he and Andre 3000 will both be releasing solo projects sometime this year. Big Boi’s Sir Luscious Left Foot: The Son Of Chico Dusty will be dropping first, and Andre’s shortly after that. If both are “well-recieved” then we can expect another Outkast album.. (Hopefully… fingers crossed…)
Gorillaz : Plastic Beach [Virgin]
I’ve been a Gorillaz fan since I was a freshman in highschool. Despite rumors of Jamie Hewlet(the visual artist behind the band, and creator of TankGirl) parting from the band last fall. Expect stellar appearances from Snoop Dogg, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, Kano, Bashy, Bobby Womack, Mos Def, Gruff Rhys, De La Soul, Little Dragon, Mark E. Smith, Lou Reed, Mick Jones, Paul Simonon, sinfonia ViVA and The Lebanese National Orchestra for Oriental Arabic Music. Producer, Damon Albarn says it’s the “most pop record” he has ever made. N*E*R*D : Instant Gratification [Interscope]
I think all real, hardcore N.E.R.D fans will agree with me when I say it was an epic failure when they announced they would be adding Rhea to the group… Then they caught news of this backslash and appropriately booted the bitch with haste. Most of my peers wasn’t satisfied with what they gave us on Seeing Sounds… Personally, I thought it was spectacular; although I really don’t know how I feel about Pharrell’s mental condition after having his tattoos removed and noticing his terrible taste in female vocalist (after Kelis)… But hopefully they can regain all of our trust with this new one…
MGMT : Congradulations [Columbia/Sony]
You can pretty much expect nothing but greatness from these guys after catching wind of their critically acclaimed debut album, Oracular Spectacular( which even caught the attention of Paul McCartney). The band takes a note from Jay-Z and refuses to release any single on their new album Congratulations similar to how Jay-Z released American Gangster. The duo wants this album to be a complete body of songs rather than an album with standout singles. On January 12, 2010, Andrew Van Wyngarden declared the album finished in an interview on the Spin Magazine website, saying: “It’s mixed and mastered, and now we’re just working on presenting it to the world”. It will be released in April.
Daft Punk : Tron Soundtrack [Virgin]
I don’t know if I’m the only one stoked about this… Last year it was announced Daft Punk was signed to compose a 24 track album for the film Tron Legacy. [Related Post]
Broken Bells : Broken Bells [Columbia]
As we reported, Danger Mouse and the Shins frontman, James Mercer, joined forces to form the duo Broken Bells. Everyone remembers when these guys had Columbia Records shut us down for a day for leaking some exclusive material… Hopefully you had a chance to download it before we had to remove the link, because this stuff is straight opium! The Avalanches : TBA [Modular]
Yes, it’s really been nine years since Since I Left You turned sample-based dance music on its head. Whats been the hold up… Clearing samples.. there’s no confirmed date, but our trusted sources say they finally got those samples signed-off and are ready to follow up their classic debut
Vampire Weekend : Contra [XL]
I copped a copy of this on iTunes last month and it’s still on heavy rotation on my iPod so you know it’s classic. Contra is a followup on one of the most universally acclaimed debuts of the decade. To pump the new album they released a free MP3 about a Mexican rice drink, and then a awesome video. [Related Post]
Uffie : Sex, Dreams & Denim Jeans [Ed banger]
French MC, Uffie busted the electro scene open with her raunchy, sexually-charged raps and overdosed electro beats from of the Ed Banger crew, to build a crazy buzz, but has yet to release an album. This changes now… Some people like to compare her stuff to Peachz or M.I.A., I just hope she has taken to long and missed out on her once decent buzz.
GoldFrapp : Head First [Mute]
I found out about GoldFrapp alittle late… They switched up their whole sound with their fourth LP, 2008’s ambiguous Seventh Tree, UK electronic group Goldfrapp has slide back onto the dancefloor with new LP, Head First. From the first taste of the album, coming in the form of new single Rocket, the band have rediscovered their love of electro, lacing the party anthem with neon-lite hooks and Atari-aping synths.. If your a fan of my music, then you should know that I would dig this.
Erykah Badu : New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh)
I been a Erykah fan since I was a shorty, so I definitely look forward to this one… Despite the wack ass single she just released with Lil’ Wanye…. I still hold faith in her… Especially after hearing “Window Seat”. [Related Post]
Santogold : Untitled [Downtown]
There is no doubt about it, Santogold’s new record is going to be epic. After crossing aths with artist like Jay-Z, N.E.R.D, and Diplo, she is definitely an undeniable force to be reckoned with. [Related Post]
David Byrne & Fat Boy Slim : Here Lies Love [Todomundo/Nonesuch]
An amazing concept album, David Byrne and Fatboy Slim have paired up for Here Lies Love, a 22-track LP about the life of former First Lady of the Philippines, Imelda Marcos, and her childhood servant, Estrella Cumpas. Due April 6 on Todomundo/Nonesuch Records, the album includes two CDs of music, a DVD with six videos, and a 100-page hardcover book detailing the project. In addition to Byrne and Fatboy Slim, Here Lies Love features performances by Santigold, Florence Welch (Florence + The Machine), Sia, Steve Earle, St. Vincent, Natalie Merchant, Tori Amos, Sharon Jones, Nicole Atkins, and many others. Sade : Soldier of Love [Sony]
Every 10 years she teases us with another classic album. Hopefully, she can withstand the test of time this go-a-round, because quite frankly I hate her fucking single…
Arcade Fire : TBA
Radiohead : TBA
I’m sure I missed something… But that pretty much wraps it up….
