On Monday, August 6th, 2012, Mali Hunter, Groove Chambers, and the Tree Sound family and staff put together an excellent event for Def Jam’s most recent superstar, 2 Chainz, in preparation for his album, Based On A T.R.U. Story, dropping on August  14th, 2012. Sponsored by Grey Goose’s Cherry Noir and food prepared by Mali herself, anybody who was anybody was in attendance for the special opportunity to hear the new project.  Special guests included Def Jam Executives, Sean “Pecas” Costner and Sha Money, Label mate, Ne-Yo, Lance Gross, KY Engineering, J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, and many more.

The night started with great music and people arriving quickly and excited to see the man of the hour. With a great atmosphere including about three, four bars set up all over The Cave of Tree Sound Studios and a buffet of amazing food, the mood was set and ready for 2 Chainz to walk in at any moment.   It seemed that every dope artist, DJ, executive, established and on the rise, was in attendance and conversing with each other. Two9, Speaker Foxx, Nemo Achida, Heroes and Villains, and DJ Green Lantern, are just a few to name.   It was an amazing feeling to be surrounded by so much talent and positive vibes.

As the night progressed, around 9:30pm, everyone started to pile back into The Cave because the word had gotten around that 2 Chainz had arrived. Sure enough, he had. He steps on the stage in all black, with his jewels, double cup, and shades, and of course the first word to come out of his mouth was, “Truuuuu”.  Soon after, Def Jam VP, Sean Costner presented 2 Chainz with the Gold Plaque for his smash single, ‘No Lie’.  With an overwhelming applause and cheering from the audience, 2 Chainz was more than grateful.  He then, gets the mic back and wastes no time letting the audience hear is pride and joy, the album. He shouts out most of the producers on the project, who mostly all happened to be from the city of Atlanta. Mike Will, DJ Spinz, Bangladesh and Don Cannon, were all shown love and were there to show support as well.  Then, it was time to hear the music.

2 Chainz started off in order with tracks one and two, the first featuring Lil Wayne. He did not disappoint. The crowd was vibing and bouncing around like they’ve heard the records before. As he presents each record he shouts out the producer, if there’s a feature, and the story behind the record.  The audience seemed to love every last bit of it.  He performed as many records as he could (He wasn’t shy about stating he may have forgotten some lyrics) and kept the crowd interested and enthused.  It felt like a free concert that left one with the feeling that he/she should have paid for it.

Overall, the album is definitely not a disappointment. The singles mesh well with the rest of album cuts, his sound was not altered at all, and he also has a few records where he
gives the listener a different side of him. The event, the music, the artist, the experience was an unbelievable success! Once again, thanks to Mali, Groove, and Tree Sound Studios for the opportunity! Based On A T.R.U. Story, August 14th, 2012. TRUUUUUUUUUUUU!
