I appreciate Mal d’estro for having the courage to create this piece titled “Don’t Worry, Africa” to offer some much needed awareness. I, in turn, hope to do the same. The obsession with the consumption of oil is not only a problem in Africa, but various areas in the Middle East. Despite various forms of propaganda, if any individual willing to take the time to personally research various currents events, a pattern may start to form for them.
Try it and let me know what you discover.

Hakuchi’s Ball-point Pen Illustrations

I was giddy when I discovered these pen illustrations from Hakuchi. I literally hopped in my seat as I saved these images. I was looking for some inspiration and his art came through in the clutch. I love sketching in pen. It forces me to either perfect my line or learn to see beauty in a flawed curve. Hakuchi’s strong use of contrast using black and white with the accented red is subtle, but passionate. I feel his illustrations have a lot of personality and his Japanese and manga influence can clearly be seen. His website is in Japanese, but you can try your luck clicking a few links or try an online translator to help. It’s definitely worth it.http://www.hakuchi.jp/

Each year The New Yorker holds an art contest to re-imagine Eustace (the gentleman with the monocle). Eustace has graced every cover of The New Yorker since 1925. It’s only right that a publication known for it’s comics, poetry, and flagrant criticism of a all art forms in popular culture and across the land hold it’s own art contest.12 pieces were chosen to display and 1 grand prize winner will have their art work transformed into a tote. That’s pretty lame but these images aren’t. Par take in a couple of my favorites after the break.

Last month Greedmont had an ART CONTEST with the theme design a mash-up of Tron inspired movie poster advocating the reckless drinking and drug use. It would be called Tron: Inebracy… a world were everyone is wasted! Well, that was that and these are the best in the show. I think it was unethical to declare myself the winner, even though in my humble opinion mine was clearly the BEST! [LOOK and SEE!] But, what you going to do? That’s Life.
But here is Best of the Best. Stay tuned for the next Contest. FOLLOW me on TWITTER for updates. @iLIKEitJUICY Thanks for everyone who participated, and for everyone who pretended like the was going to participate, but flaked out last minute. There always next time… where we hope to have better prizes and bigger sponsors. Till then. – Joshua
BRANDON SADLER
1st PLACE: BRANDON SADLER. This was the most impressive of the lot. The style is dope, it’s over the top, and most importantly, he adhered to the theme. What a class act! To see more of his work or comssion him for a project go to: www.Risingredlotus.com
ANTHONY SIMS
2nd PLACE: ANHONY SIMS. This was definitely the FUNNIEST entry. Had me LOL’ing all over the place. When Anthony isn’t drawing cartoons he’s also designing sick Tee’s. GO BUY ONE @ miscapparel.bigcartel.com Help a Brutha out…he got a baby on the way.

As most of you know the deadline for Greedmont’s Badass Art Battle is approaching this SUNDAY. Being that I can’t win since I’m judging the competition, I figured I’d share my entry today! So ya’ll can see the level of shit you’ll be competing against! We got some really good entries from talented artist, along with shitty ones… So you better come with that fiyah!
We are still seeking graphic artist & illustrators for upcoming “TOTALLY BADASS” art competition. We are looking for the baddest, meanest, no-holds bar artists around to create some hot shit that would make Chuck Norris blush.
[Theme:] Design a mash-up of Tron inspired movie poster advocating the reckless drinking and drug use. (drug-free entries will be automatically disqualified.) It will be called Tron: Inebracy… a World were everyone is wasted! For a closer look (more…)
