TOUGH BOND: (OFFICIAL TRAILER) from Village Beat on Vimeo.
Tough Bond, named after a commonly huffed adhesive, is a new documentary about four homeless children in Kenya who band together in a family. It looks devastating. The film was shot, directed and edited by the non-profit, California-based film collective Village Beat, with an original soundtrack by London/Malawi’s The Very Best and Nigerian-born Seye.

A house full of laughter harmonized with great music, the smell of paint mixed with the urban dictionary definition of loud, small dogs with big barks not to mention the countless goddesses entering and exiting. The walls bleed creativity whilst positive vibrations illuminate every room. There’s inspiration everywhere your eyes can see–pure artistic chaos. This is a home fit for an artist–this is the prestigious Greedmont Mansion, and the setting for my interview with Corey Davis and A.ware better known as Hip-Hop duo Mach Five.
They’ve been knighted by Complex Magazine as one of the more worthy acts in the city of Atlanta that your attention should be undividedly engrossed in. Mach Five’s latest album Art Rap has been posted all across the interweb and drawing new fans toward their biggest project yet. Our interview starts at the beginning–chapter one before the creation of Mach Five; on a high school bus in Atlanta where marijuana and Midwestern rap roots act as the bridge that brings the two visionaries together. By the end of the interview, I had 2 hours’ worth of classic stories, revelations, and insight. Condensing it into an article short enough for a generation plagued by ADD and accustomed to only reading 140 characters wasn’t an easy task, but believe that Corey and A.ware have a story worth telling, worth reading, and music worth turning all the way up. Vice’s Noisey shot this awesome documentary at the “Gathering of the Juggalos” last year, and I finally decided to post it after the FBI decided to officially deem all avid ICP fans as a gang. The Freedom of Information activist website, Muckrock, has uncovered the FBI’s file on the Insane Clown Posse and their legions of Juggalos. After some bonehead over at the FBI deemed the Juggalos a “gang.” In order to protect their hyper-loyal fanbase from the various legal ramifications that come from being associated with a gang, ICP filed a suit against the FBI. And now we know exactly what the FBI thinks of them. Quite obviously, there’s a lot of misinformation there. The FBI’s mission was to prove that, “The Juggalos are a legitimate gang with a large following…who follow the ICP in almost a religious manner.” Which is almost like saying all super loyal Laker’s fans are a gang..
The FBI’s Salt Lake City office conducted a 14-month investigation into the horrorcore duo’s fanbase. The file identifies Juggalos and Juggalettes as a “violent street gang” numbering in the thousands, whose members “sometimes paint their faces to look like wicked clowns” and “continue the dress by carrying small axes.”
The goals of the investigation were to “examine the structure, scope, and relationships pertaining to the … violent street gang; to identify members and the organization structure of the gang,” and, perhaps most surprisingly, “to identify all illegal activities which may constitute a pattern of racketeering activity.”
Ultimately, the FBI hoped to “develop larger conspiracy investigations and successful conspiracy prosecutions” of even single robberies using the Hobbs Act, a statute frequently used in corruption cases involving public officials and labor unions.

It’s been a year since the death of Trayvon Martin. He would have been 18 on February 5th. George Zimmerman‘s next hearing under the “stand your ground” law provisions is set for April 22.

I’ve been hearing a lot about this interview and finally had a chance to sit down and really check it out. Killer Mike stopped Invasion Radio with Green Latern to talk about his new album R.A.P. Music and also stated some interesting opinions on Waka Flocka’s and Lupe Fiasco’s music.

Our good friend, Artemus Jenkins, directed this informative music video and documentary for Tre Luce’s “The Return.” The story here is kinda reminiscent of the things some of the people from my documentary, J is for Junkie, touched on. Here’s a brief history of Atlanta, over a beautiful score and song by Tre Luce and Scar. Jenkins will be premiering his film with Miya Bailey, Color Outside the Lines, next thursday in Midtown Arts Cinema. Get your tickets now here. ($10)

Lately, Mitt Romney’s haunting high school memories have been catching up on him. He has been responding to this week’s talk on “gay-marriage” (i.e. Obama support of same-sex marriage) and personal position on marijuana from a conservative viewpoint. Tamron Hall, MSNBC anchor, interviews the conservative columnist Tim Carney on Mitt Romney’s campaign and response. Tamron holds her views whileas Tim Carney targets the media tricks of “hyping” up stories to convey the public. The shutdown begins 5:20.
Share your thoughts on gay-marriage and Mitt Romney’s position. Team Carney or Hall?

Last week, Joseph Kony became a household name to almost all of US, thanks to the 30-minutes video commissioned by the Invisible Children organization to raise awareness for the brutal rebel group, the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA). Tens of millions have watched, from around the world, but the people directly effected by the LRA did not. On Tuesday, the African Youth Initiative Network set up a public screening of the video in the north.
