Leap Gesture Controls [Tech]

Friday, June 8, 2012 by | No Comments | Category: Culture, Tech

This looks like something straight out of the movie, Minority Report, Leap represents an entirely new way to interact with your computers. It’s more accurate than a mouse, as reliable as a keyboard and more sensitive than a touchscreen. For the first time, you can control a computer in three dimensions with your natural hand and finger movements.

Similar to the Microsoft Kinect, the 3D motion-capturing device tracks an 8-cubic-foot area for movements, and recognizes the differences between fingers, thumbs and even pencils simultaneously, but for a much cheaper price.

The USB device is roughly the size of a cigarette lighter and sits directly in front of a computer’s display. Created by David Holz’s, a young tinkerer from southern Florida. Pre-order yours now @ www.leapmotion.com ($70)

360 filming
This is fucking crazy. As you can see in the picture the dudes sillouete has him surrounded by by circular device which I can only assume has a many cameras on it or a new type of panning fish eye sort of camera on it. Any way click the link that says “360 filming” and you can move your mouse around to control the camera and capture every thing from every angle!I believe a ski and snow boarding resort by name of LAAX is responsible for the film.

This is intense. At first glance I thought, “Don’t let this be what I think it is.” It was. Artists can now go straight from pen on paper to digital. The innovative people over at Wacom will be releasing this bad boy in mid-September. Although I was giddy about it, I assumed a hefty price tag would follow. I was in for another surprise when I found out it would only be 2 bills ($200). I look forward to reading reviews on it before I decide to make the investment. An early downfall I noticed is that it currently covers an area about the size of notebook paper.

This new Maybach looks something like a luxury Batmobile, the Maybach Exelero ($8 million) is quite an interesting vehicle. Based on the Maybach 57, created by the tiremaker Fulda to show off its latest and greatest rubber, it features a turbocharged V12 good for 700 horses and a top speed of 218. It was supposed to be purchased by the rapper Birdman, but it looks like his pockets came up a little short.
