Getting to Know The Many Sides of Johnny Polygon [Interview]
Monday, August 16th, 2010

From hearing the name Johnny Polygon, you’d might expect that he would be Bill Nye the Science Guy’s friend that has an expertise in mathematics. Of course, you’d be wrong. If you guessed that he’s a funky producer and singer with a sense of humor to match, you’d be suspiciously accurate. Johnny Polygon is currently basking in the success of the release of “Rebel Without Applause” presented by KarmaLoop and DJ Green Lantern and prepping for his newest EP, “The Wolf in Cheap Clothing”. With titles like that, I decided to show Johnny Polygon a little attention and dive into discussions about his music, collaborations, and style.

Coming To Life With Young America’s Newest Renegade, Corey Davis [Interview]
Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

It’s all science. Talent, hard work, and patience creates something great. Most see the fruition of the great things that one is capable of in the final stages, they don’t see the in between. Well, until now. Corey Davis is one of the most promising contenders in young America.

Just finishing celebrating a twenty-fourth birthday in New York, Corey Davis has the credentials that some twice his age would envy. Half of the successful indie band Mach5, co-creator of the publication Greedmont Park, tattoo artist, graphic and fashion designer, and full-time smooth criminal. Corey in appearance might seem on the surface like your average, skateboard-friendly stoner, but that’s far from the truth. Corey Davis is a artist who has seemingly found a balance between art, business, and fun. I caught up wit him to talk about what exactly is the method of the madness and he simply came to life.

A Glance Inside of the Red Cup: A tête-à-tête with FKi
Monday, August 2nd, 2010

During these uncomfortably hot summer days, there seem to be a duo who specialize in quenching our growing thirst for good music. Combined with original production and witty delivery, FKi have come together to bring the fun back to hip hop. With their single Red Cup slowly streaming it’s way to the radio while currently flooding the hottest venues in Atlanta, it seems that you can’t even go to a club without witnessing a surprisingly energetic and extremely entertaining performance by the two.
However, some may still wonder- who is FKi?
I’ll allow them to enlighten you on their thoughts of
Thank Me Later, the current state of music, and the three rules that will land you success in the music industry as you break out, break up and roll up your favorite strain while filling your red cup with Arizona tea, and join me in conversation with Raye Rich, 21 and First Down, 22- natives of Atlanta who’s idea of a summer break is proving that the ATL has more to offer beyond what everybody is hearing on the radio and seeing on Television.

Who is FKi?
Raye- FKi is Raye Rich. FKi is First Down. FKi is the future.

First, who is Raye Rich?
First- Raye is the rapper of the group. The wild child. If we ever went on tour and somebody came up missing, it would be him….missing…and we wouldn’t find him until two days later…smelling like sex and alcohol! He definitely brings the fun to the group.

Raye, who is First?
Raye- First Down is the creative engine. He’s the producer. He’s a wild child, too! He used to be like me, don’t get it twisted. But there comes a point in your life where you have to stop…and his was just earlier than mine! Mine is going to be a little bit later though.
First- I feel like I’m getting old too early. I feel like I’ve done so much with my life that people have probably never done. Truthfully, since I was 17 through 19, we’ve done more crazy shit that dudes who’re 30 years old haven’t done. Things that people think about doing, we’ve been there and done that. We literally have done it all. You can yell out something right now, and if I haven’t done it- Raye has.

Having sex with a woman on a yacht in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico!
Raye- we have had sex with women on a yacht, but it wasn’t in Mexico. It was at a party at Lake Lanier. (more…)

How To Rule The World: Xem Vanadams
Thursday, July 29th, 2010

I’ve gotten to speak with and pick alot of brains and this is just the beginning. I’ve shaken alot of hands and talked about alot of launch parties and upcoming albums, but it has never been personal. Sure, I’ll get nervous because of the name or reputation, but it never rings personal. This conversation rings personal. This might as well be a page of a diary or a verse from a songbook. At least, I’ll treat it as such. I’m here on the end of my bed; writing with a small cup of vodka in tow only forty-five minutes away from midnight. I’m here at the end of my bed writing about a man who has changed my life and is destined to change the world. The name may not be instantly recognizable, now to all, but please acquaint yourself with a writer and social and culture commentator, Xem Vanadams.

It was a couple of years ago when I first ran into Xem Vanadams, born Zaxembi Vanadams. I didn’t run into him properly, I ran into him through the media medium, YouTube. Xem was sitting stoically in front of a camera talking about an experience shared by many and talked about by few. Xem was discussing poetically about being young, black, and gay in America. I wasn’t the only person to take notice to this eloquently spoken man, the video garnered thousands of views on YouTube and birthed a movement that is much bigger than the Internet. Fast forward to now, and Xem Vanadams is an reoccurring name in the discussion of media, culture, and social issues through his highly successful blog (www.xemvanadams.com) and his YouTube channel. Through the powers of the Internet, I got to talk to Xem about everything from the personal, impersonal, and anything inbetween. Take caution now, this isn’t an article. This is a page of a diary, soon to be the page of history.

Under ‘Pressure’ with Quadron
Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

quadronpresse

Feeling good is something that can be taken for granted. For music to make you smile, laugh, or just feel better than you did before is a gift. Sometimes, it has nothing to do with the lyrics, production, voice, or melody. It’s simply just unexplainable. “Pressure” bleeds through my computer speakers as I’m looking what to post on Greedmont Park. I thought I was in search for something cool, something fashionable, something that would make me seem as cool as the website I was writing for. Instead, I found Quadron’s video for “Pressure”. It was cool and fashionable, but more than anything, it made me feel good. Music that makes you feel is the most valuable. I research more and retrieve their CD, and I fall in love.
Coco is the lead singer and Robin is the producer, they mesh together to make soul tunes tinged with European electronic elements that form to make a great sound that is reminiscent of a time that I wasn’t even born for, but it still feels now and ever-present. Songs like “Pressure” and “Average Fruit” are smart and spirited with complimentary production and a crisp voice caressing them. There’s the bluesy and soulful “Jeans” and “Slippin” that are as youthful as they are spirited. Then, there are stand-out tracks like “Buster Keaton” that verge on psychedelic. “Quadron” is a breath of fresh-air. When I’m cleaning, hanging out with a romantic prospect, or busy at work; Quadron’s “Quadron” would be playing.
Fast forward a few weeks, and I get word that Quadron would be coming to Atlanta. Within the next few minutes I get a call that I’m invited to the concert, free of charge (what a life I lead!) and I’m sent into a panic thinking about outfit choices and songs I hope they perform. The night comes of their first performance in Atlanta and notoriously brunette lead-singer, CoCo, is now a blonde. She’s sporting a navy and white polka-dot dress that inspires thoughts of Marilyn Monroe. She apologizes for being under-the-weather and dealing with a voice that is not up to par. However, the crowd can only see a bright personality and soaringly, soulful voice. CoCo is captivating, effortlessly spilling her soul, sipping on her drink, dancing, and telling jokes. The audience, after the show, gets to meet the duo and get pictures. I was amazed by their sense of humor and warm spirits. It was within that moment that I knew that I’d have to talk to them about their stardom, style, and pressure.
