How dope are these visuals!? There is so much to look at in this video! Laura Mvula’s message to listeners is apparent very early in the song. “I will never be what you want and that’s alright. Coz my skin ain’t light, and my body ain’t tight, and that’s alright.” How powerful is that? Reminiscent of the talented Janelle Monaé, Laura continues to define her position as a black woman in the music business.

One time for Kendrick Lamar’s Sax Player. King Kendrick has teared down almost every late night show now: Jimmy Fallon, Conan, Letterman, and now Jimmy Kimmel. He performed live jazzy versions of his two most popular songs off GKMC. I love hearing rappers with live instruments. I really posted this just for the Sax player – dude kills it.

I’ve become more and more familiar with Nia Keturah’s music, and yesterday she dropped her newest project, “po lil black girl”. Definitely a conceptual, narrative piece, discussing the story of three friends. Don’t won’t to tell too much, just give it a listen. Nia has a sound all her own. Download HERE. Stream below.

For Alex Jacke, his college experience was enough to inspire his debut project, D.F.M (Dorm Fucking Music). With the help of legendary producer Lancey Stewart, who helped him land a publishing deal with Music Gallery/Universal Music Publishing Group, Alex is quickly becoming the next major R&B star.
