M.anifest – “Blue (Chale What Dey Happen)” [VIDEO]

Saturday, February 23, 2013 by | No Comments | Category: Culture, Entertainment, Music, Music Video, Rap, Video

Ghanaian rap artist M.anifest released visuals for his latest single, “Blue,” a mellow tune produced by G Mo that I liked instantly. Here’s insight into the video and song:

The video was shot on location in Saltpond and Accra. It tells a story of longing and nostalgia inspired by living away from home. The video. shows M.anifest in soliloquy whiles his mind travels to many childhood memories that remind him of home. From longing for kelewele, beans, gari (foods readily available on the streets of Accra) to girls shaking their “wele,” “Blue” shows a man journeying through time, torn between melancholy and fond remembrance.

“Blue” (Chale what dey happen) is also a throwback to M.anifest’s adolescent years but perhaps more importantly a historical document of the cultural shifts that hiplife/ rap spawned in the 90s. In the 3rd verse you hear and see images that serve as a reflection on the beginnings of a new wave of contemporary Ghanaian pop/hiplife music.

Directed by WA Productions/LOVECINÉ FILMS. Edited by LOVECINÉ FILMS. Executive Produced by TTD Media. Get it on iTunes or listen and read the lyrics here.

High-DRO-planing with CNN – [Video]

CNN may have just posted their best piece of investigative journalism in years. In the following video, three drivers of varying ages got incredibly high on marijuana and test-drove cars around a course. A driving-ed instructor accompanied them to avert any chance of an accident, and police watched from the sidelines to spot any visible ‘signs’ of inebriation in their movements.

I’ve always been one to enjoy the feeling of driving while high. I pay more attention to details of the road and everything (including my speed) seems to slow down. In addition, traffic becomes tolerable! I feel like most would drive more safely, plus it could prevent road rage!

The volunteers — a young daily smoker, adult weekend smoker and elder infrequent smoker — proceeded to test escalating levels of stupor against the new baseline ‘legal limits’ in Colorado and Washington state. They had to reach excesses of 5 times the legal limit before their ability to drive became impaired. In most cases, the danger they presented was driving too slowly or with frequent hesitations.
