These days have been hot. Not just any kind of hot. It’s been smoldering, where it feels like your lungs are trying extremely hard to even find suitable air for your body. It’s the type of heat that shuns money and makes air-conditioner the new type of currency. Shorts are shorter, water is plentiful, and the freaks come out at night for the simple reason that the sun won’t be anywhere to be found.

With the heat-wave covering my city (as I’m sure it is yours, as well), it was quite an surprise when I got a text from a good friend on my Friday outing with some cool news. The text read: ‘Are you going to the American Apparel flea market?’ My first response was to admit my ignorance, but that would do little for my fashionisto image, so I lied. ‘Of course. Where is it, again?’. The flea market was in Atlanta’s Atlantic Station only about 15 minutes away from my house, and a cool 5 minute bus-ride from the place that I actually was.

I boarded the bus with my vintage, black Prada messenger-style bag, destroyed cut-off shorts, over-sized deep green and brown flannel, African wooden medallion, stacked tribal bracelets, and red and orange vans to see what all of this excitement was true. Once boarding the bus, I must admit, the trip was already feeling like a good idea since the bus was something like a Igloo in the middle of the Sahara. Pure, unadulterated relief from the heavy heat. After getting comfortable, I take the time to look around and notice that the residents on this bus weren’t your usual tourists, high-school wanna-be’s, or disgruntle retail workers. These characters were different. Tons of Keds, ray-bans, cut-off shorts, tang-tops, ‘Legalize’ shirts, pastel and neon colors, and cute faces. This bus usually filled with common folk was now over-loaded with LookBook.nu rejects. I knew that I was over-dressed, under-dressed, and probably fit right in all at the same time.
I step off the bus and we’re all on the same hunt. For a flea market that sounds too good to be true. There are no signs, but an usual amount of vendors selling their replica bags and faux-hipster threads. They know that the thirst for the cool would be off the meter if American Apparel is hosting such an astonishing event. Gay Asian boys wearing ‘Legalize Gay’ shirts and pale, brunettes in leotards directed us. We were Alice, they were fashionable mad-hatters and tardy rabbits.

Brilliant.

Last month, American Apparel held a contest to find the best butt in the world that could fit into a pair of their bright colored undies or leotards. If you know me personally, then you will know that I have had several encounters with a hand-full of American Apparel models myself. So im always interested in seeing what new faces they bringing to the table. The contest deadline is this Sunday, so if you think your badunk-a-dunk is worthy, hit em up! I see the Hispanic ladies are currently holding it down for the world, here’s some of my favs. Salute!

We’re looking for a brand new bum (the best in the world!) to be the new “face” for our always expanding intimates and briefs lines. The winners will be flown to LA, photographed and featured online. Send in a close-up photo of your backside wearing American Apparel panties, bodysuits or briefs for consideration and vote for your personal favorites.

You must be 18 years of age or older to enter. Submit your photo(s) between January 28, 2010, and February 21, 2010. Two winners – selected by American Apparel judges – will be eligible to be our next butt model. The top ten contestants, as voted on by the public, will receive a grab bag of American Apparel items valued at $300.

American Apparel New Line of Nail Polish

American Apparel launched its first collection of eighteen lacquers in December. Quality issues with the glassware required all products to be taken off shelves.
