The turnout for the Popular Artshow at City of Ink last friday was crazyyyy! This Would be the 5th art exhibition I put together, and this time aroudn I had the help of the lovely Sophie Cest Lavie. We decided to make it a juried exhibition on Pop Culture, so artist would be inspired to give us their best. Sponsored by Kid Robot, Rhythm Liqueur, Binders Art Supply Store, and Asahi Japanese beer, there was plenty of free goodies for everyone. From bottles of beer to Kid Robot’s new, unreleased “Evil Skaters” series and discount gift cards, our “Lady Gaga” and “Marilyn Monroe” waitresses was always there popping up with a new gift for the packed-out crowd. I decided to share a little info on the process it took to create the album cover for the Greedmont Compilation album called Playground Vol.1. When Simon fist approached me about taking on this new project, I was a bit skeptical, because my workload was already so heavy. But after enjoying a few cups of rather good “tea” together he convinced me that it would be beneficial for everyone, and we decided to move forward with making an album dedicated to the indie Hip-Hop scene here in Atlanta. Recording the album was a breeze, Rookie dropped 40+ beats on me and we basically knocked it out within the following 2 weeks; the hardest thing about it was arranging everyone’s schedule so things would move as fluidly as possible. After hearing some of the music, I started getting inspired on what direction I was going to take on album art. (more…)
