Coming To Life With Young America’s Newest Renegade, Corey Davis [Interview]
Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

It’s all science. Talent, hard work, and patience creates something great. Most see the fruition of the great things that one is capable of in the final stages, they don’t see the in between. Well, until now. Corey Davis is one of the most promising contenders in young America.

Just finishing celebrating a twenty-fourth birthday in New York, Corey Davis has the credentials that some twice his age would envy. Half of the successful indie band Mach5, co-creator of the publication Greedmont Park, tattoo artist, graphic and fashion designer, and full-time smooth criminal. Corey in appearance might seem on the surface like your average, skateboard-friendly stoner, but that’s far from the truth. Corey Davis is a artist who has seemingly found a balance between art, business, and fun. I caught up wit him to talk about what exactly is the method of the madness and he simply came to life.

Greedmont’s No Saliva Vol. 1 [Prod. by Ethereal]
Sunday, August 8th, 2010

Greedmont Park presents No Saliva Vol.1 by Ethereal, a down-tempo mixtape with a cohesive blend of 21 hip-hop, electronica, and jazz instrumental tracks. Ethereal is a producer infamous for his use of samples combined 16-bit synthesizers and bass heavy percussion. Usually, I prefer to listen to this type of music while creating art, because its ambient loops leaves me room to focus; since it’s not overly cluttered with narcissistic lyrics and rambunctious ad-libs. The perfect “chillout” soundtrack for your artshow, lounge or cafe, it features exclusive remixes from Bosco, Mach Five, and Sye Spence. Ethereal states “This is an Ethereal adventure tape for all of the visual artist out there who enjoy creating to spacey audio operas.”

Greedmont Park Magazine #1 [Aug/Sept]
Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

With bundles of hard copies coming fresh off the press and being packaged to be distributed across America (more specifically NY, LA, and ATL). I am proud to present you the first issue of Greedmont Magazine! A free bimonthly publication we’ve been working on extensively with our team “bloggers” over the past month to put together. In the beginning I didn’t think it was possible, but everyone agreed it was time to take the blog to the next level by turning it into a magazine. The first issue features interviews Fefe Dobson along with Fool’s Gold artist, Kid Sister and A-Trak; and with some of our favorite local artist like Brandon Sadler and Carla Aaron-Lopez. Enjoy!

Corey Davis Sketchbook Vol. 1
Monday, July 12th, 2010

Hey guys! As you know, the sketchbook is the foundation of my art, it’s where the creative process starts and ideas are manifested. I spend countless hours sketching, planning and perfecting my style with the confinements of its pages. So I thought it’d be cool to release my first series of limited-edition sketchbooks, each individually numbered and signed. There’s only 10 available, the first one is 6×8 inches and features my “Sugar Skull” design engraved on the cover, along with my logo on the spine. Available @ iamcoreydavis.com for $25

Carla’s Black American Life
Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

Carla Aaron-Lopez is a Los Angeles native who picked up her first camera at the age of 20 while rivaling with a college friend and instantly developed an affinity for photography. Her portfolio is centered on her life and the people she encounters, preferring to shoot “hard-working black people and they ultimately have the best stories to tell.” A close friend of mine, whose criticism and opinion I’ll always value, I recently had a chance to chop it up her.
