This video been out for a while now, and i seriously wanted to post it earlier but I guess i forgot. Blame the school work. But, this post isn’t a rant on school but more on the amazing music of Sid Sriram. He’s a California native, who currently living in Boston (Holla!) and makes great music. He did this cover for Frank Ocean’s “We all Try”, one of my favorite songs in Nostalgia, if i must add. The music speaks for itself. (And, Taco from Odd Future actually shed some greater light to it, via Tumblr). You will definitely be hearing more from this dude in the coming weeks, I’m obsessed!

Supreeme – Church and State

Sunday, March 6, 2011 by | 2 Comments; | Category: Music, Rap

A lot of ya’ll might remember when we debuted Supreeme’s final album, God Bless the Child, back in 2009. It’s hard to believe Supreeme recorded and released this rare, hard-to-find album, Church and State, nearly 8 years ago. Though the group disbanded this album can still be held as ahead of it’s time. I consider this their prime when they birthed the Atlanta indie “hipster” rap scene, before anyone ever knew what a hipster was… Greedmont Park presents the Grady High School grads [Negashi Armada, King Self and Dope Pope], a trio of international teenagers using the theme of globalization, and all its political and socioeconomic baggage, as a metaphor for their Supreeme takeover. This timeless album inspired me on so many levels during college, and after moving to New York and recently listening to it on the subway I felt like it was something everyone should experience. Since we released their last album, it only felt right to re-release their first album. This is a straight up classic!

Donald Glover is Childish Gambino

Over (Childish Gambino cover) from Donald Glover on Vimeo.

Imagine my surprise when one of my favorite comedic writers (“30 Rock”, “Community”) and co-star of one of my favorite shows, “Community”, was musically inclined. Well, not just musically inclined, but really brilliantly talented under the name, Childish Gambino. The hesitation is inevitable, but his talent and passion speaks for itself. He drops some arresting verses over Drake’s “Cover”. Color me impressed. Check it out!
