“I’ll FACEBOOK you later” is the new “Keep in touch?”
Saturday, May 1st, 2010

Yeah, I’ll “Facebook” you later.

Really? Ahh…Ok?… I guess….

I was having lunch today with a co-worker at a mexican eatery here in downtown, LA. Senor Fish…Great place, BTW. Anyway, as we sat down to wait for our order,
he noticed an old friend he hadn’t seen in a while. “Tracy!,” he says in a low voice.
She didn’t hear him at first so he repeated it but a little louder.. “TRACY!”

“OH – my – God!” she said. They hugged, then chopped it up for a few minutes. So my co worker goes “Yeah, we’ll hang soon, fur sure.” And she goes…”Yeah, I’ll FACEBOOK YOU LATER.” What?!

As he sat down, there was this weird look across his face. Turns out, he will NOT be accepting her request. And he probably will never see Tracy again, or want to.

So it got me thinking… wow, “Facebook, you later.” Is that what’s “in” right now? Not, I’ll call you sometime, or I’ll text you. Or even..I’ll shoot you an email. It’s “I’ll FACEBOOK” you later now? You gotta be F’n kidding me!!!

Now for anyone that knows me, I’m Mr. Technology, Mr. Forward Thinker. Any gadget, toy, or latest piece of modern technology out there I have or know of. That PS3 Slim, got it.. Latest computer, had it for 6 months now. Oh, did you hear about the “so and so” that’s gonna be out next year? Yeah, I already pre-ordered one, 6 months ago. Not only that, but as a creative director, it’s my job to not only design creative campaigns, but to implement the latest trends and the way people think and interact with products into that campaign. Some of the apps you use here on facebook were designed and/or tested by someone in my company, or probably even myself.

But I refuse… I say REFUSE to accept this “FACEBOOK ME” as a standard of staying in touch with people…

And here’s why:

Facebook Office
Monday, January 4th, 2010

I would kill for a workspace that was this gangster!  Facebook recently moved their offices out of several smaller locations spread throughout Palo Alto, CA and into one central, 150,000-square-foot building that used to house Agilent Technologies. Many of the building’s original features either remain or have been repurposed for Facebook’s use.

The space was designed by studio o+a who took time to interview employees to see what they wanted and what would make their work experience better and more productive. Employees collaborated with designers throughout the entire process to ensure the best product possible. Because of the differing departmental needs, small neighborhoods within the building were created giving each department its own unique flavor and vibe. The company has remained committed to providing free gourmet meals, snacks, and drinks in micro-kitchens located throughout the building. In order to keep the company agile and fresh, employees are encouraged to write on walls, add artwork, and move furniture as they see fit.
