Greedmont Park Magazine #2 [Winter 2011]

Tuesday, February 1, 2011 by | 19 Comments; | Category: Alternative/Rock, Art, Culture, Daily Inspiration, Electro, Entertainment, Fashion, Gossip, Interview, Music, Pop, Rap, RnB/Jazz/Soul

In a world full of self righteousness, it takes strong, creative people to deny the boxes society tries to force upon us. Greedmont Park is continuously smashing these boxes and shedding labels in the process. Our second issue of Greedmont Park is exploring the vices and sins that we have all fallen victim to on this Earth. We decided that there was no other artist that could explicate to our audience the Godly and devilish in all of us, quite like Tupac Shakur. To our generation, Tupac Shakur is more than a rapper, but a Messiah, a prophet. Take this controversial trip with Greedmont Park through everything from WikiLeaks controversy, the on-going trend of Homophobia in Hip-Hop, the taboos of sex, and everything in-between. We talked to artists like Uffie and Mr. Hudson along with artists like Miya Bailey and Melody Ehsani who were brave and willing to confess all their sins and secrets to Greedmont Park, Catholic confessional style.

Our online followers are lucky enough to see it first! Bundles of hard copies are being mass produced by our printer and distributed across America (more specifically NY, LA, and ATL) as we speak! Get ready for the second issue of Greedmont Park magazine where art, sex and sin are synonymous. Misfits, rebels, nonconformists, innovators, and outcasts welcome to Greedmontpark.com!

It’s a Little, Greedy World After All [Greedmont Park x Little Nicky OUTTAKES]

Myles E. Johnson (Art Director), Domo Westry (group member of Little Nicky), Patrick Johnson (group member of Little Nicky), Destiny Manifest (costume designer/make-up artist)

Every now again the Greedmont Park family comes together and creates some magical things with some ferociously talented people. This past Saturday I produced and art directed a photo-shoot featuring independent, out Hip-Hop duo, Little Nicky. Our very own Naturee Wells was the photographer, bringing to life the animated duo and everyone’s vision. Destiny Manifest did costume designing and make-up on set to make the boys as forward and cute as their music. My job? Well, I linked all of these amazing souls together and made sure the pictures had that special ‘umph!’ to be in the newest issue of Greedmont Park magazine. Be sure to look out for the Winter Issue of Greedmont Park magazine and my controversial, new article featuring Little Nicky this February. Meanwhile, enjoy the behind-the-scene pictures!

All The Queen’s Men: A Introspective on the Bishop Eddie Long Scandal

Atlanta has long been known for being a contradiction of a city. Deeply founded in southern tradition and hospitality, Atlanta also is feeding ground for racism and homophobia. No, Atlanta isn’t as progressive as New York or Lose Angeles, at least on the surface. Underneath the traditional southern charm, Atlanta has grown into a industry city focused on entertainment, more specifically music and film. Alongside the development of entertainment in Atlanta, Atlanta is known as a ‘gay city’. A ‘gay city’ especially for the black gay community.

With that type of oil and water separation in tact, there’s times when the separation becomes apparent. The new scandal with Bishop Eddie Long is a perfect example of what can happen when the struggle and contradiction in the black community comes to a head, and it only makes sense to make Atlanta it’s backdrop.

How To Rule The World: Xem Vanadams

Thursday, July 29, 2010 by | 4 Comments; | Category: Culture, Entertainment, Interview, Studio13

I’ve gotten to speak with and pick alot of brains and this is just the beginning. I’ve shaken alot of hands and talked about alot of launch parties and upcoming albums, but it has never been personal. Sure, I’ll get nervous because of the name or reputation, but it never rings personal. This conversation rings personal. This might as well be a page of a diary or a verse from a songbook. At least, I’ll treat it as such. I’m here on the end of my bed; writing with a small cup of vodka in tow only forty-five minutes away from midnight. I’m here at the end of my bed writing about a man who has changed my life and is destined to change the world. The name may not be instantly recognizable, now to all, but please acquaint yourself with a writer and social and culture commentator, Xem Vanadams.

It was a couple of years ago when I first ran into Xem Vanadams, born Zaxembi Vanadams. I didn’t run into him properly, I ran into him through the media medium, YouTube. Xem was sitting stoically in front of a camera talking about an experience shared by many and talked about by few. Xem was discussing poetically about being young, black, and gay in America. I wasn’t the only person to take notice to this eloquently spoken man, the video garnered thousands of views on YouTube and birthed a movement that is much bigger than the Internet. Fast forward to now, and Xem Vanadams is an reoccurring name in the discussion of media, culture, and social issues through his highly successful blog (www.xemvanadams.com) and his YouTube channel. Through the powers of the Internet, I got to talk to Xem about everything from the personal, impersonal, and anything inbetween. Take caution now, this isn’t an article. This is a page of a diary, soon to be the page of history.

Asher Roth Comes out the Closet

Sunday, December 20, 2009 by | 8 Comments; | Category: Comedy, Culture, Music

Rapper Asher Roth will appear on E!News during the Christmas Holiday celebration to talk about his recent “coming out of the closet”. Asher was recently at a Gay Rights Parade with Lady Gaga, American Idol Winner, Clay Aiken, Blink 182, and REM lead man Michael Stipe. Asher Roth, who came out of the closet last week, is making his first appearance on E!News this week.

Asher, who was dropped from SRC Records, is currently the only major hip hop star that has admitted he is a “gay rapper”. He admitted that he was one of the gay rappers mentioned in MTV’s Terrance Dean’s book. Terrance Dean posted the news on his blog, after he said he wasn’t going to name names. He was very happy that Asher came out of the closet before he had to mention names.

Asher, who has been on numerous rally’s and marches over the past year, really became visible in the gay community with American Idol winner, Clay Aiken. Besides Terrance Dean posting the news on his own blog, TMZ.com, and E!News all put out newsletters stating the good news about Asher Roth.

Asher is currently living in a “gay section” of New York and “loving life”.
