Remember Money Making Mitch from Paid in Full? Based on the life of Rich Porter, Mitch was the Harlem kingpin that everyone loved. He had an ambitious survival mentality but balanced it with a charismatic personality. Despite his line of work, everyone gravitated towards Mitch. In New Atlanta, Mitch is Money Makin’ Nique, minus the drug trafficking. Originally born in Massachusetts, Nique is the rapper everyone is trying to work with in Atlanta. He’s a member of the Two9 collective. He embodies that ambitious survival mentality, but also has a charismatic personality. People genuinely gravitate towards Nique.
With the release of his most recent project, The Lion King EP, Nique shows he’s a skilled lyricist with hard hitting rhymes and a classic northern flow. He spits gritty rhymes over hard beats throughout the tape, composed entirely of Arabmuzik beats. Arab’s production style and Nique’s lyrical delivery are the perfect marriage – creating the perfect black hoodie rap.
Nique has a busy year ahead of him. With a steady buzz, Nique isn’t looking to slow down anytime soon. He’s working on a number of projects and performing different shows. He has a project with fellow Two9 artist, Key in the works, as well as a project with producer Childish Major. I met with Money Makin’ Nique at Fly Kix in Atlanta to talk about his recent project and all of the love he’s been receiving from it (more…)

A house full of laughter harmonized with great music, the smell of paint mixed with the urban dictionary definition of loud, small dogs with big barks not to mention the countless goddesses entering and exiting. The walls bleed creativity whilst positive vibrations illuminate every room. There’s inspiration everywhere your eyes can see–pure artistic chaos. This is a home fit for an artist–this is the prestigious Greedmont Mansion, and the setting for my interview with Corey Davis and A.ware better known as Hip-Hop duo Mach Five.
They’ve been knighted by Complex Magazine as one of the more worthy acts in the city of Atlanta that your attention should be undividedly engrossed in. Mach Five’s latest album Art Rap has been posted all across the interweb and drawing new fans toward their biggest project yet. Our interview starts at the beginning–chapter one before the creation of Mach Five; on a high school bus in Atlanta where marijuana and Midwestern rap roots act as the bridge that brings the two visionaries together. By the end of the interview, I had 2 hours’ worth of classic stories, revelations, and insight. Condensing it into an article short enough for a generation plagued by ADD and accustomed to only reading 140 characters wasn’t an easy task, but believe that Corey and A.ware have a story worth telling, worth reading, and music worth turning all the way up. The Florida native’s current stop is Atlanta, GA- the home of Peachtrees and sweet, sweet, sweet tea. Clad in all black with sunglasses on deck and custom cutoff shorts that match (boy, you know what comes next…), Kilo Kish effortlessly captivates her audience as she floats her way to the stage and grasps the microphone. The last act of the night, her performance begins just like her EP does- melodic and mellow.
“Your head is on my pillow/ I’m thinking of where this could go/ I’m slowing down the tempo/ your eyes so black, they’re like the universe to me/ I think that what I’m trying to see/ Is if you have enough to be/ every part of every thing…”
During down time of the current record, she surprises spectators by placing the microphone in front of a random fan’s face.
“Say whatever you want.”
“I love you…” Is all he can muster up.
Greedmont Park: I’m going to do something similar to what’s done during your set- blurt out phrases, and request that you unveil the first thing that comes to your mind once you hear these words. No over-thinking, no filter!
