Parkour (or ‘le parkour‘; ‘freerunning‘; ‘pk‘ or ‘pking‘) is the sport of fluid urban movement. Invented in 1988 in the Lisses suburb of Paris by a small crew of traceurs including the ledgendary David Belle and Sebastien Foucan who recently featured in the BBC documentary ‘Jump London’, the sport (or art) of pk is essentially a conbination of running, athletics and acrobatics in urban environments.
The original District B13, operated under a simple premise of dope fight scenes and stunts. District 13: Ultimatum follows the same tradition of bone breaking martial arts and death defying stunts which seemingly going to make for an awesome action movie. But for some unknown reason the movie just gives up on being an action movie, and start to be a cartoonish fight-the-power after school special where a multi-cultural gang of killer, thugs and rapist unite to save all of France from some evil French Haliburton with kung fu and back flips (for real, no exaggeration). For some bizarre reason none of the cops in the films are fast enough to pull their gun which makes for an abundant of implausible fight scenes one after another that would make Jackie Chan roll his eyes.
The Upside: Some decent action and stunts.
The Downside: The movie starts out good, but eventually goes “full retard. You never go full retard. Everybody knows that. Rent the original as the Ultimatum loses all the charm of the original, District D13.
