Shoutout to the god Melo-X. It’s no secret that the DJ/Producer/Rapper has a thing for Riri. He’s remixed a number of her songs. He’s back now with a super dope remix of Drake’s “Girls Love Beyonce.” Instead, Melo replaces Beyonce with Rihanna for the girls that love to get a little more ratchet. As alway, Melo does an excellent job. Download the remix here. Also, be on the look out for a Greedmont exclusive interview with Melo-x.

“S&M” is the newest single from Rihanna’s “Loud” album. It’s directed by the talented Melina Matsoukas. It even features a appearance by infamous blogger, Perez Hilton. The strong sexuality and violence suggested by the song is juxtaposed with bright colors, sassy nude dresses, and a playful sense of humor. Enjoy! Also, check out my review on Rihanna’s “Loud” album by clicking here.

“Sex And The City” is one of my favorite movies and a pivotal scene in the film was when Carrie Bradshaw (played by Sarah Jessica Parker) asked her group of confidants if she’ll ever laugh again after suffering through a severe heartbreak. Same was true for Barbados-born pop singer, Rihanna with her album “Rated R”. Though, there were happier tunes like “Rude Boy”, the album was intensely dark and focused on ‘the event’ (we will not talk about it!). Which led listeners, especially myself, to wonder if Rihanna will ever be the playful, songstress that we loved. Rihanna hits us back (no pun, we will not talk about it!) with “Loud”. Despite the title, there’s nothing as loud as the songstress’ red locks on the actual body of work. The only thing that might hold-up is the pop parade of a song, “Only Girl”. That’s not a bad thing, “Loud” has plenty of pop high-lights. The punk-y “Cheers” and seduction of “Skin” keep the album afloat. Mid-tempo jams, “What’s My Name” and “Man Down” high-light Rihanna’s island past and bridges it to mainstream pop that Rihanna spews out every six months. The album isn’t all fun, though. Songs like “Fading”, “Raining Men” and “Complicated” are miserably awkward and formulaic that it becomes a bore to listen to, though they can be fun, it doesn’t sound like anything her pop-diva counterparts couldn’t do either. The album opens with what might seem like ‘Rated R’-era Rihanna sprouting her head, chanting about ‘whips and chains’ on the raunchy “S&M”. It closes with another track reminiscent of ‘Rated R’-era RiRi called ‘Love The Way You Lie (Part II)’. The tracks aren’t blatantly bad, but don’t fit the mood of the CD which leads to the biggest problem; the fact that we all know Rihanna doesn’t compose or write her material, it’s important that she doesn’t just pick eleven songs that sound fun to sing and can make people dance. It’s her job to pick songs that are cohesive and tell a story. She did that successfully on “Rated R”, but not so much with “Loud”. Rihanna seems confused on whether to laugh it off or cry, and the result is not a solid album, but a few cute songs, a couple of great pop records, and some other sullen songs that maybe a frustrated teenager can find solace in. Rihanna, if you haven’t, please, watch “Sex And The City”! Carrie was sad for a while too, but she ended up laughing (really hard) and having fun. She was never ‘completely’ the same, but she doesn’t regress back in those shadows. I hope the same for you.

According to Billboard, the seventh studio album from rapper Eminem will sell up to 700,ooo copies by the end of tomorrow, making it certified gold and the best sales of an album since October 2008!!! Personally, with tracks such as ‘Cold Wind Blows’, ‘No Love’ with Weezy, and lets not forget the Rihanna feature ‘Love the Way You Lie’, I’m gaining more love and much respect for the rapper with each listen. It’s worth the purchase, so cop a couple for yourself and friends!! Congrats to Em and everyone in his camp!
UPDATE: 741,400. Big ups to Eminem, well deserved!!!
