Just this month, during the annual conference and festival by the name of SXSW, Jabari Johnson (Jabari Presents) and Benoni Tagoe (The Mis-Adventures of Awkward Black Girl) released a long awaited project by the name of Volume Visual. A multi-channel Youtube network with a focus on Hip-Hop (artists, sites that cover Hip-Hop interviews, and more.
In the last few years, we’ve seen an apparent shift within the online community itself and most significantly in the amount of fanbase gained by not-so-famous or unsigned personalities. Calling a symbolic amount of attention by brands, researchers, and corporate officials: trying to understand how-on-earth they can use this as a new tool to increase profitability. Although not all of these unsigned acts or individual, self owned creators (without the power of a label, marketing agencies, or PR firm) can do it alone. (more…)

Claw Money rose to fame as a street artist during the 90s but our generation may know her best for her eponymous fashion line. Her artwork is coveted around the world and her style has been praised by Kanye West, M.I.A., and Santogold. This mini-documentary from YouTube Content Partner WIGS describes Claw Money’s story as:
The story of an idealistic street artist who ditched anonymity to become a business owner and iconic designer, without ever giving up her spray paint.
Check it out! And, if you like this piece, be on the lookout for more mini-docs from WIGS.

The Fly Guys are a rap trio from Los Angeles but calling them simply rappers seems a little dishonest. They’re more like multi-talented entertainers who have, at the very least, mastered the art of rap, acting, comedy, and performance and you can witness it all in their award-winning webseries, “The F Word“. “The F Word” chronicles the lives of Tone, DJB, and enimaL and all of their attempts of finding “the one” hit song that will lead them to ultimate success within the music industry. Oh and they do all of this in just under 8 minutes per episode. I’m going to be honest, “The F Word” is one of the most innovative album marketing tools I’ve seen in a long time. Watch the latest episode below and catch up on the past seasons via YouTube.
